I am pleased to announce that I am running for a position on the Groton Town Council!! I began this journey in early 2021, was nominated by the Nominating Committee of the Groton Democratic Town Committee in June and was recently endorsed by the full Groton Democratic Town Committee. For those of you who do not know me I grew up in southeastern CT in Lisbon, attended St. Bernard’s High School and then graduated from Seton Hall University in NJ in 1991. I continued my education and graduated from UCONN in 1994 with an MBA in Finance. I started my professional career at Mohegan Sun in 1996 and I moved to Groton in 1999. I worked for the Mohegan organization in numerous capacities in the accounting, finance, and business diversification areas for over twenty years.
My wife and I have five kids (three beyond high school and two in the Groton school system) and I am the Director of Finance for the City of New London. I am also very involved in some other capacities as the founder and Vice President of the James Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Treasurer of Groton Long Point, and I manage the financial activities of our families’ businesses which consists of four Dairy Queens, two Aroogas Sports Bars, and some real estate.
My desire to serve on the Town Council is sincere and I believe my background in finance, government, and business will assist in the role as a Councilor if elected. I will utilize my 30 plus years of experience and focus on integral Groton matters such as the budget, financial statements, bond offerings, affordable housing plans, small and medium size business development, smart and balanced economic development, and business recruitment and retention, while also ensuring continued focus on such critical areas as education, public safety, and health and human services. I also understand the importance of balancing competing interests and being a team player while also agreeing to disagree, but with respect and dignity, when necessary for the best long-term interests of the town of Groton.
I hope to gain your respect and your vote in the upcoming elections. Groton is making tremendous strides and with the right team in place on the Groton Town Council we can truly make a difference and continue to propel Groton forward and achieve new heights. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments you may have at [email protected] or 860-917-5925.
Thank you,
David McBride,
Groton Town Council candidate
